UPDATES ON ENVIRONMENTAL POLITICS IN CALIFORNIA

Sierra Club California Blog Spot

Sierra Club California's Role In Sustainable Forestry

California's Board of Forestry makes the rules governing logging and fire protection on over 37 million acres of land in California. Sierra Club California is the only statewide environmental organization that is a consistent voice at the Board of Forestry meetings.

Our presence ensures fire protection efforts won’t harm the environment and focuses on creating defensible spaces around homes and communities. We're also leading the charge to reform California’s logging rules to protect endangered salmon and other vanishing species, and restore degraded watersheds

Clearcutting Endorsed to Sequester Carbon

A new forestry battlefront has opened up at the Air Resources Board (ARB) as part of implementation of AB 32 (climate change). The newly “Revised and Approved Forest Action Protocol” (version 3.0, Sept. 2009) contains a provision that, if allowed to stand, will justify decimating California’s forest resources in the name of climate action. Sierra Club California is a member of Sierra Forest Legacy, a coalition of conservation groups working exclusively in the Sierra Nevada region to protect, restore, and conserve the 11 national forests within the mountain range. Surrounding three national parks,  these forests encompass approximately 12 million acres of public treasure.
