Who Lobbies For California’s Wild Places? YOU CAN!

Come join us in Sacramento for Lobby Day on Sunday and Monday, Aug. 23-24.  As part of a team, you’ll help us pass priority bills during the most exciting and challenging time of the year at the State Capitol.  You’ll connect with other activists and our professional lobbying staff, as well as with legislators and their staff.

Your work will make a difference in this year’s hottest issues, including global warming, alternative fuels, water supply and reform of transportation and land use planning.

What to expect for Lobby Day:

The Program: Lobby Day begins on Sunday, August 23rd at 12:30 pm in the Sierra Club’s Sacramento office (we have moved – 801 K Street, Suite 2700) with training in legislative advocacy and current environmental issues. Sierra Club California’s lobbyists will provide the tools you’ll need for meeting with key legislators and State agency staff. We will also discuss the legislative process, meeting protocol, and provide you with talking points on the specific bills that we will be lobbying. We think you will find our staff's descriptions of what really happens in the Capitol to be interesting and worthwhile. We will conclude at about 5:30pm.

We reassemble at our office Monday morning beginning at 8 a.m. where we will serve light breakfast.  Starting on or about 9:00 a.m. you will meet with key legislators and staff representing your region at the Capitol. Sierra Club California staff will coordinate Lobby Day meeting appointments to ensure the maximum number of meetings with the maximum number of legislators.  If you have time before your trip home, you will come back to our office for a debriefing.

Reimbursements: Reimbursements for travel and lodging expenses will be available, depending on locations.

Registration: Registration deadline for Lobby Day is August 15 . If we receive more applications than we have space for, preference may be given to applicants from our targeted districts. Early registration is extremely helpful as we make appointments with legislators.
